The brief

A Cambridge client wanted a welcoming feature wall opposite their main entrance — something with a traditional Indian influence but a clean, modern finish. Elegant and artistic, without looking like a full temple setup.

Space details:

  • Hallway length: approx. 10 ft
  • Entrance opening to focal wall: approx. 8 ft
  • Final focal wall width: approx. 5 ft
  • Ceiling height: 7 ft 10 in, with a CNC feature panel approx. 6 ft

The design needed to feel refined and bespoke, work for daily use and guest-facing presentation, and sit proportionally within the available wall space.

Our approach

We developed the wall as a balanced mix of traditional decorative elements and contemporary panel styling. Two visual directions were explored — one more symmetrical and traditional, the other slightly abstract and non-symmetrical — and the preferred route kept the traditional motifs but presented them in a cleaner, more modern way. Diyas were removed and the central display revised from a temple arrangement to a Buddha statue to keep the look refined rather than ritual. The central CNC/WPC panel was designed for manufacture in India and shipping to the UK, framed by decorative side pillars and topped with an art-deco arch carrying concealed warm lighting. A floating WPC drawer sits below — clear of the pillars so it reads light — sized so it never overpowers the panel. Lighting was planned as warm and subtle throughout: concealed accents around the arch and Buddha, plus a decorative chandelier chosen to suit the traditional-contemporary theme. The full package included concept development, 3D renders, a SketchUp model, AutoCAD drawings, a dimension sheet, lighting and CNC coordination, and material and styling recommendations.

What we delivered

  • Concept development with two explored design directions
  • 3D renders, SketchUp model and AutoCAD drawings with dimension sheet
  • CNC / WPC feature-panel design coordinated for manufacture
  • Lighting placement guidance for integrated and ceiling lighting
  • Material, finish and styling recommendations

Result

The final concept delivers a calm, elegant entrance feature that balances heritage and modern styling.

  • Two decorative side pillars framing a central CNC-cut WPC panel (approx. 6 ft) with lotus, elephant, Pichwai cow, peacock, bell and ratham-inspired motifs and an art-deco arch form
  • A central Buddha display styled with soft accent lighting for a calm focal point
  • A bespoke floating drawer for practical entrance storage, visually light and proportioned to the wall
  • Warm integrated lighting plus a decorative chandelier
  • A single large tropical plant to the right, keeping the composition natural rather than rigid
